The purpose of registering is to provide a real-time list of participants. This should expedite communication and increase the chances of success. There are 8 questions, it should take about 1 minute to complete. Click on the URL below and then click on REGISTER. http://w9if.net/cgi-bin/beaconet/main.pl I got interested in this facet of amateur radio after reading the article by W2EV in the Nov 99 issue of QST. I quickly realized that my chances of success could be increased if I knew who was participating so I knew where to point the beam. It was out of this need that I developed this registration page. I hope that you find it useful. For those interested in more information, the Nov 1999 QST article by W2EV and the Nov 2000 issue of QST (page 28 and 83) may be useful. This project started 6 months with a simple idea. I got input from Bob B, and other APRS movers and shakers. I also got suggestions from amateurs on several APRS mailing lists. I hope the results of our efforts show. I feel the need to emphasize that this is not a popularity contest. It is meant to foster communication between folks with similar equipment. I provide it as a service in the hopes that some "good" may come from the information. The survey is based on the honor system. To help prevent skewing the results, the results will not be posted until the survey period is over at the end November. However, you can see where the respondents came from on a map of the US. An amateur radio callsign is required, but you may remain anonymous if you wish. APRS Survey 2000 http://w9if.net/cgi-bin/aprssurvey/main.pl Getting a large number of respondents will aid in providing an accurate cross-section of the APRS community. So thanks in advance to those that complete the survey and spreading the word. One copy of APRSdata running in each region will transmit to the front panel of all D7 HT's and D700 mobiles in the area on 144.39, the location of any satellites in view. For those D700's with the voice module, if you set the CUSTOM-1 comment, then it will speak to you the satellite in view. Think of it as a tiny-web-page update to the radio's front panel, showing the name of the satellite, the range and azimuth to the bird, the up/downlink freuqencies and the present doppler. For AO40, it shows the elevation angle. In addition, once every 10 minutes the DX-LIST in the radio is updated with a schedule of all satellites in view in the next 80 minutes. I had to modify the program for AO40 which is in view for hours at a time so that it was not updated every minute like the others. APRSdata.exe and its associated files are in ADAT-EXE.ZIP available from ftp://tapr.org/aprssig/dosstuff/APRSdos/adat-exe.zip PKUNZIP it with the "-d" option or use WinZIP to install it into your existing APRSdos directory. It uses all the support files of a normal APRSdos installation. If you dont have it, download aprs848.zip first. As usual, read the README\APRSDATA.TXT file. de WB4APR, Bob --- You are currently subscribed to aprssig as: bruninga@usna.edu To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-aprssig-20817K@lists.tapr.org Questions regarding the SIG go to the SIG administrator: wa1lou@tapr.org --- You are currently subscribed to aprsnews as: lyris.aprsnews@tapr.org To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-aprsnews-839E@lists.tapr.org Questions regarding the SIG go to the SIG administrator: wa1lou@tapr.org
