Not sure if anyone noticed the location of the picture (on E-bay, they don't host the pictures, you put a link to your site), but its from www.cleverdevices.com. Clever Devices did and does sell GPS based transit (bus) stop announcement equipment. As such, something like this should be quite useful to them Since they are dumping them, they either don't work well, are yesterdays model or someone cancelled a order with them and they are stuck with them. -Jeff >-- > >Gary Sanders > >--- >You are currently subscribed to tacgps as: JEFF@MICH.COM >To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-tacgps-6754G@lists.tapr.org > > --- You are currently subscribed to tacgps as: lyris.tacgps@tapr.org To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-tacgps-6754G@lists.tapr.org From bounce-tacgps-6754@lists.tapr.org Sat Dec 18 19:25:13 1999 Received: from lists.tapr.org (lists.tapr.org [204.17.217.24]) by tapr.org (8.9.3/8.9.3/1.13) with SMTP id TAA27450 for ; Sat, 18 Dec 1999 19:25:12 -0600 (CST) Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Sender: trcox@postoffice.att.net Message-Id: Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 19:24:08 -0600 To: "TAPR Special Interest Group" From: Tom Cox Subject: [tacgps] Garmin GPS-25 firmware upgrade Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed" List-Unsubscribe: List-Software: Lyris Server version 3.0 List-Subscribe: List-Owner: X-List-Host: Tucson Amateur Packet Radio Reply-To: "TAPR Special Interest Group" X-Message-Id: Sender: bounce-tacgps-6754@lists.tapr.org Precedence: bulk A Garmin web page (http://www.garmin.com/support/download.html) offers a GPS-25 firmware update. So there is one timing-related change if you were already running 2.22, but two if your firmware is older than that. As for the difficulty of doing the update: as someone noted, you need to connect to the second serial port. I had done this a long time ago anyway, since the second serial port provides raw data output (pseudoranges and carrier phase). It was a pretty trivial modification to have the existing one serial port connect to either of the two ports on the GPS 25. I don't have a real TAC kit; I built something that is electrically very similar before the TAPR kit was available. In my "TACalike" all that was required was to add a DPDT switch, connecting the MAX232 level converter to either of the two GPS25 serial ports. This allows access to NMEA or binary data, but not both at once. I expect it would be easy to do this with a genuine TAC as well. Someday I plan on redesigning the thing to replace 3 small perfboards of circuitry (built at different times) with a single PC board. When I do that, I'll provide two separate DB-9 connectors on the box that are connected to the GPS-25's two serial ports full-time, allowing simultaneous NMEA and binary output. I am a new "poster" to the forum. I have just aquired a Motorola Oncore VP and TAPR DGPS board. I am having a minor problem, that I can not get the Oncore to accept a DGPS input from a Garmin GBR-21 receiver. The Oncore appears to be working OK. TAC32 is indicating 1PPS and position. The GBR-21 is working. I have a spliiter cable wired to the Oncore, the GBR-21 and a Garmin 12XL. The 12XL is controlling the receiver and it shows differntial lockup. The GBR-21 is configured to send RTCM at 4800 Bps. TAC32 is set up for Motorola Binary. I have the Oncore wired to a DB9 connector, pin 1 is the 1 PPS, pin 2 is the Oncore TX, pin 3 is the Oncore RX, pin 5 is ground. The GBR-21 is sending RTCM via pin 3. What I have done is put a switch in line on pin 3 that selects either the computer or the RTCM input. I sent the CORIN command (@@Ce) from TAC32 and then I switch to the GBR-21. TAC32 does not show it is receiving DGPS (when I run the 12XL and GBR-21 only with TAC32, is display the differential status, station, age, etc). I am inputing RTCM on the computer I/O. I have a seperate cable coming out of the Oncore for its TAPR DGPS output. The Oncore's DGPS output also works. I can feed it to the 12XL and it shows differential lockup. I am using TAC32 V2.4.0.1. The Oncore SW is 98-P36830P, SW Ver 10, Rev 0, Date 24 Sep 1997, Model B8221Z1116, S/N EOOLMJ, Mfg date 9E25, Options are IBC. Anybody have any suggestions ? What I am attempting to do, is to re-survey using the differntial input to the Oncore. I bought the Oncore for two reasons. First, I want to be able to generate DGPS locally. I am 133 miles for Hartsville, TN which is the nearest Coast Guard DGPS transmitter site. I can only receive the signal during daylight hours. Second, I have plans to use the Oncore as the TAC to check up on my rubidium oscillator. So, set the GBR-21 for 9600 Bps and not 4800 Bps.
