I have built a TAC-2 using a Garmin GPS-25 LVC Receiver and it works great. However, the GPS-25 has a second serial port. I would like to be able to send DGPS corrections to the GPS-25 on the second serial port. Alternatively I would like to be able to receive the carrier phase data from the second serial port. I do not quite understand the steps necessary to tweak the TAC-2 for this situation. The GPS-25 that I have has TTL level ports (not RS-232 level ports) although I don’t believe this will be an issue. Thanks in advance for any help. This would be used on both a walking survey and possibly waterborne surveys. It would be preferable to be able to do so with minimal software development. The data would be postprocessed for differential corrections. Look for the package called XNTP, "Network Time Protocol". More than likely, depending on which Linux distribution you are using, it probably is on the distro, but may not be installed by default. It can be driven directly by the GPS receiver through a serial port on your Linux box, or it can sync to a remote time source via the internet. It can act as a time server or just keep it's own PC's time accurate, depending on how it's set up. If you're a novice at Linux like me it can be a bit of a bear to get going with GPS initially, but once it's running it acts like most other Linux apps - it just runs forever without tinkering. Most of the Linux distributions include it. It can receive time from servers, provide time to other servers, and get time from hardware like GPS or WWVB clocks. Assuming you're installing from a package under Debian, Red Hat, etc., all you should need to do is edit the /etc/ntp.conf file to add the address of the servers you want to sync to, and you should be all set. Hello, The product comparisons have a WAAS item. With the eTrex it seems only the Venture, Legend, and Vista have it (Basically ones with built-in memory). I have seen press releases that some of the newer aviation units will get it or have it already. I read more about WAAS today and it is an interesting system. The thing I have noticed is that it seems very easy to break lock on the WAAS satellite.
