(This message is posted on the MIC-E SIG on a monthly basis.)
PURPOSE
The purpose of the MIC-E SIG is to provide a forum for folks interested in discussing the MIC-E (Mic Encoder), which installs between your radio microphone and radio to permit your GPS unit to transmit APRS AX.25 frames at designated intervals without a TNC.
POSTING MESSAGES
To post messages to the MIC-E SIG, send email to mic-e@tapr.org
MIC-E SIG RULES
The MIC-E SIG has a few simple rules:
. Be courteous. Abusive, insulting, or rude behavior demonstrated towards another list member is a violation of this rule.
. Stick to the subject, i.e., the APRS protocol specification. Subjects that are only tangentially related to the MIC-E (like "what kind of automobile should I buy to install my MIC-E?") may be considered off-topic. If you start a message with "this is off-topic..." then you are violating this rule.
. Be succinct when composing a message. (The MIC-E SIG software has been optioned to limit the length of each message.)
. When quoting a previous message, only quote the parts of that message you are referencing. (The MIC-E SIG software has been optioned to limit the length of a quote.)
. Do not send messages in HTML of Rich Text format.
. Do not send attachments.
. Cross-posting is not permitted. (The MIC-E SIG software has been optioned to prevent cross-posting.)
. The MIC-E SIG administrator reserves the right to suspend or ban any list member who violates these rules.
UNSUBSCRIBING

Hi, I`v been using the mic-e in auto mode as a tracker for some time with no
probs, but lately after repairing a loose con on the personality header
using a HTX-202 ) I find that I cant get the config to "take" speficically
the relay, wide, wide path is not seen in the transmitted date, just a bunch
of numbers! The beacon text just disapears as well after the "perm" and
reset------anyone have any thoughs on this? Also I would like to get a
schematic of the board---I lost mine-- it is not included with the
manual.............dave (kr4cn)

Sure, so long as the radio is tuned to that frequency.

It doesn't. There are no mods to the radio.

Ben,
If you are using it on a voice repeater, it must be a repeater that has
Mic-E capabilities. Then this repeater will translate your Mic-E packet
burst and retransmit it on the APRS frequency in your area which in most
cases will be 144.39.
You can also run your Mic-E directly on 144.39 and set it up so that it will
transmit automatically at your predetermined time interval. In this way it
will act like a normal tracker, except that it is not capable of being set
up to respond to RELAY.
In my normal mode of operation using my Mic-E tracker, I have a special
memory channel set to monitor my normal home repeater and have a big offset
programmed on this channel so that when it transmits, it will transmit on
144.39. When I hear someone calling me on my home repeater, I press my CALL
Channel button, turn off the Mic-E unit and hold a normal voice repeater
conversation. When done, I go back to my special memory channel and turn
the Mic-E back on. This method works really well for me. The only drawback
is, that your Mic-E unit can not monitor for a blank spot on 144.39 before
it transmits. This will cause some of the tracker transmissions to die due
to collisions. This is a minor drawback that I can live with.
Of course, even with the Mic-E unit hooked up but turned off, you can still
use your radio as you normally do in voice mode.
Hope this answers your questions.
