Using the EZ-KIT SHARC HF channel simulator ------------------------------------------- 1) mdir hfsim, cd hfsim 2) xcopy a:*.* . /s 3) edit/add environment variable (this is for COM2 and your COM port must be capable of handling 115200 - Windows DOS box is OK). SET ADSP0=0,23,5,2,115200 ^ |...... this is set for COM2 at 115200 4) Let's for example want to simulate a POOR path, at 10 dB SNR, then diag21k fl 10_poor ..... (if there is a timeout message - this is OK) ps ..... Red LED#2 should be blinking x This procedure can be repeated for other conditions simply by re-starting "diag21k". There are two simulator files available with this sample, 10_poor (CCIR POOR, 10 dB SNR), 40_poor (CCIR POOR, 10 dB SNR), 5_pass (Pass through with 5 dB SNR). For a comprehensive simulator package, please e-mail me for further details. 5) Setting up levels etc.... Two devices are connected back-to-back through the simulator. For a half-duplex configuration, make the following connections: EZ-KIT Left input---+-------330 OHm-------------Unit A output EZ-KIT Right input---|-------330 OHm-+ +------Unit A input | | | | +------------+ | | EZ-KIT Left output----------+ +-----------Unit B output EZ-KIT Right output------------------------------Unit B input When connected like this, both devices hears the same traffic, and since only one is transmitting at a time, the audio is interleaved with both forward and reverse direction traffic passing through the simulated environment. The simulator dynamically computes the right amount of Gaussian noise to be added to the signal by computing, in real time, a running average of applied signal power, i.e., no signal - no noise. Input signal level should be adjusted to a level where these added noise peaks are not exceeding the limits of the audio hardware. If that happens, a scratchy output will be noticeable. It may be necessary to amplify the simulator's output externally should the level appears to be insufficient to drive the target device. Enjoy!
